  • OMEGA-3 ESSENTIAL FATS REMAIN "ESSENTIAL" – A REBUTTAL FROM OMNS

Fred Liers PhD omega-3 essential fats plus e EFA formulaOmega-3 essential fatty acids (EFA) are critically important for health. That is the reason we at HPDI include them in our foundational supplements system in the form of our Essential Fats Plus E formula. Essential Fats Plus E provides a balanced ratio of 4:1 omega-3 EPA to omega-6 GLA fatty acids proven to optimally support health.

As important as Omega-3 fats are in good health, various studies conclude they are of little value. In order to help clarity the fallacies found in such studies, this month we re-print the recent article "Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Cardiovascular Disease" from the Orthomolecular News Service (OMNS).

    BACKGROUND

Essential fats including Omega-3 and Omega-6 are so important to health that we consider them as foundational or "core" to basic nutrition as multivitamins, antioxidants/vitamin C formulas, and high-RNA superfoods, like Rejuvenate! Plus.

Many of today's health problems relate to deficiencies in Omega-3 essential fatty acids rather than overabundance of it. It makes sense for everyone to supplement their diets with at least a minimum amount of essential fats. This is addition to consuming foods high in Omega-3 (and Omega-6) essential fats, including leafy greens, nuts, seeds, and seed oils. Also, small amounts of wild-caught fish from clean waters. Preferably these fish would come from low on the food chain, such as sardines, herring, or young mackerel, for example.

In December 2107, my father Hank Liers, PhD, wrote "The Truth about Essential Fatty Acids." In his article, he delves into detail about why essential fatty acids are critical for health.

The diagram below from Dr. Hank's article shows in detail the pathways for the production and use of fatty acids in the body. In the figure the metabolic pathways (running left to right) for four fatty acids types are shown (top - Omega-3, second - Omega-6, third - Omega-9, bottom - Omega-7). Notice that only the omega-3 and omega-6 oils are considered to be essential fatty acids because they cannot be made in the body. This means they must come from food.

    omega-3 fats omega-6 fats

Furthermore, an additional diagram from Dr. Hank's article shown below provides details of the omega-6 and omega-3 pathways. Pathway specifics indicate key eicosanoids (series 1 prostaglandins [anti-inflammatory], series 2 prostaglandins [pro-inflammatory], and series 3 prostaglandins [anti-inflammatory]), oil sources, and important nutrient cofactors that are needed for the reactions to take place.

    omega-3 fats omega-6 fats

In particular, Dr. Hank discusses how superior benefits to health result from a balanced 4:1 ratio between Omega-3 eicosapentanoic acid (EPA) fatty acids and Omega-6 gamma linoleic acid (GLA).

Below we list some of the functions and benefits obtained when by diet or supplementation the correct ratios and amounts of essential fatty acids are consumed.

    • Regulate steroid production and hormone synthesis
    • Regulate pressure in the eyes, joints, and blood vessels
    • Regulate response to pain, inflammation, and swelling
    • Mediate Immune Response
    • Regulate bodily secretions and their viscosity
    • Dilate or constrict blood vessels
    • Regulate smooth muscle and autonomic reflexes
    • Are primary constituents of cellular membranes
    • Regulate the rate at which cells divide
    • Necessary for the transport of oxygen from the red blood cells to tissues
    • Necessary for proper kidney function and fluid balance
    • Prevent red blood cells from clumping together
    • Regulate nerve transmission

Dr. Hank also discusses the fallacy of thinking that supplemental Omega-3 fats alone are sufficient to produce health. That is, despite the relative lack of Omega-3 essential fats and the prevalence of Omega-6 fats in modern diets, it is nevertheless the forms (EPA and GLA)—and the critical 4:1 ratio between them—that makes the difference in how they act synergistically for health. The result of Hank's scientific understanding of essential fatty acids has resulted in his formulation of a balanced EFA product, Essential Fats Plus E.

Regarding the Orthomolecular Medicine News Service article "Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Cardiovascular Disease" (republished below) rebutting the "Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews" which relies on so-called "Evidence Based Medicine" (EBM) to distort truth on Omega-3 essential fatty acids, the fact that Omega-3 fats are under such false attack represents a huge disservice to the public.

While essential fatty acids may not generate profits for corporations—and in fact may lead to improved health outcomes that threaten the use of chemicals and drugs—essential fats nevertheless remain foundational for health.

Above we have shown the important reasons Omega-3 fats and other essential fatty acids are scientifically termed "essential." And why people continue taking essential fats, and giving them to their families and children, for supporting health and well-being. Primary among these reasons is that you cannot be healthy without them. Hence, they are essential. Why believe anyone who says otherwise?

The bottom line: Omega-3 essential fatty acids are critical for health. Supplementing the diet with them is a good idea for nearly everyone. This is especially true because typical diets are proven to be most deficient in Omega-3 among essential fats.

Below we re-print in full the recent article "Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Cardiovascular Disease" from the Orthomolecular News Service (OMNS) for the benefit of our HPDI blog readers. ~

Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Cardiovascular Disease

Commentary by Damien Downing, MBBS, MSB and Robert G. Smith, PhD

The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews has just updated its own review: Omega-3 fatty acids for the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease [1]. Here's our take on it.

Michael Pollan, the brilliant food writer, reckoned you could sum up what to do about nutrition and diets in 7 words; "Eat food, not too much, mostly plants." That sums up both what's best for humans and what's best for the planet.

We reckon you can sum up what's wrong with evidence-based medicine (EBM) in 10 words; "Evidence is a waste of data; systematic reviews are palimpsests." You can use that as a knife to quickly dissect this study.

There are many things wrong with this review. Somebody's PR department has spun the review's "no clear evidence of benefit" into "evidence of no benefit" - absence of evidence becoming evidence of absence. And clearly the media were entirely happy to take that one and run with it.

    Systematic reviews are palimpsests

What's a palimpsest? Back when things got written on vellum, an animal skin, not on paper, you didn't throw it away; you recycled it and wrote over the original. It was called a palimpsest.

A systematic review gives an opportunity to write over the conclusions of a whole list of papers with your new version of the truth. You do that by the way that you select and exclude them.

For instance there was a meta-analysis (that's a systematic review with more numbers) in 2005 that concluded that vitamin E supplements significantly increased the risk of death [2]. The way they did that was to rule out any study with less than 10 deaths - when fewer deaths was exactly the outcome they were supposed to be looking for.

The reason they gave for doing that was "because we anticipated that many small trials did not collect mortality data." We're not buying it; they used it as a trick to enable them to get the negative result they wanted - to over-write the findings of a long list of original studies.

And here we have authors doing the very same thing in this omega-3 study - and upping the ante slightly. Now the threshold is 50 deaths. Fewer than that and your study is ruled out of the final, supposedly least biased, analysis . . on the grounds that it's more biased.

We don't know how they could keep a straight face while saying (our interpretation); "The studies with fewer deaths showed more benefit from omega-3s, so we excluded them." At least that's what happened back in 2004 when the first version of this came out.[3]

But this is the 8th update (we think) and they no longer bother to tell you about what they included or excluded in detail, so we can only assume that if they had changed that exclusion they would have told us.

The weird thing is that they are allowed to do it. Nutrition researcher Dr. Steve Hickey has shown that in systematic reviews there is generally control for bias in the included studies, but none for bias in the actual review and its authors.[4,5]

They found not one example of adequate blinding among 100 Cochrane reviews (like this one); they could all be palimpsests. Do we know that they are fake? No, but it doesn't matter: what we do know is that we can't trust them. Nor can we trust this Cochrane review. Things haven't changed since 2004.

Evidence is a waste of data

Evidence is what lawyers and courts use to find someone Guilty or Not Guilty, and we all know how that can go wrong. It's a binary system: you're either one or the other. But at least if you're on trial all the evidence should be about you and whether you did the crime.

In EBM the evidence is all about populations, not about individuals. When a doctor tells you "There's a 1 in 3 chance this treatment will work" he is required to base that on big studies, or even systematic reviews. You don't, and you can't, know what that means for you because very likely you don't fit the population profile.

As Steve Hickey (again) said, the statistical fallacy underlying all this states that you have one testicle and one ovary - because that's the population average! The authors of this study update started off with about 2100 papers that looked relevant. They then excluded 90 per cent of them for various reasons - some of them good reasons, some not.

A smarter way to work would be to data-mine them and look for useful information about sub-groups and sub-effects in all the papers. Is there a particular reason omega-3s might work for you and not for others? Perhaps you can't stand fish, or are allergic to them, and so are deficient in omega-3s.

But the review system doesn't allow it, it insists on overall conclusions (about populations), and that's a colossal waste of data. It also confounds the overall finding of the review - it biases it in fact.

Here's an example: while most subgroups that made it to the final analysis showed a small reduction in risk from taking omega-3s in one form or another (pills, food, whatever), those who got it from supplemented foods, which we understand means stuff like margarine with added omega-3, showed a 4.3-fold death risk increase!

The problem here is that the effects of omega-3 fatty acids cannot be studied alone as if they were a drug. What counts are all the other components of the diet that affect a person's health.

Processed foods and drinks that contain many unhealthy ingredients can't be made healthy by adding small doses of vitamins, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids. In fact, many processed foods that contain small doses of vitamins and other essential nutrients are unhealthy because they contain large doses of sugar, salt, and harmful ingredients such as preservatives, dyes, and other non-food items.

    Why lipids are so important

Part of the problem is that lipids are truly complicated, and not many people, patients, doctors or even scientists, understand them well. You need a good understanding of lipid metabolism to appreciate the difference in metabolism and impact between alpha-linolenic acid (ALA, in food such as oily fish) and extracted oils such as EPA and DHA that are only found at high levels in omega-3 supplements.

At these levels they are effectively new to nature; nobody, indeed no mammal, was exposed to really high doses of DHA until we invented fish oil supplements [6]. Miss that fact and you miss the difference between having people eat fresh oily fish or just using omega-3 margarine!

We know from a variety of studies that a diet containing generous portions of green leafy and colorful vegetables and fruits, moderate portions of eggs, fish, and meat, and supplements of adequate doses of essential nutrients (vitamins and minerals) is effective at lowering the risk for cardiovascular disease.

Adequate doses of both omega-3 (in flax oil, walnuts, fish) and omega-6 (in seed oils such as canola, soybean, peanut) fatty acids are essential for health. Although essential, omega-6 fatty acids are thought to contribute to inflammation throughout the body whereas omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory.

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for most body organs including the brain but are found in lower levels than omega-6 fatty acids in most vegetables. Risk for cardiovascular disease can be lowered by adequate doses of vitamins C (3,000-10,000mg/d), D (2,000-10,000 IU/d), E (400-1,200 IU/d), and magnesium (300-600 mg/d) in addition to an excellent diet that includes an adequate dose of omega-3 fatty acids.[7]

  • HOW TO MAKE KETO COFFEE USING pH ADJUST

Fred Liers PhD keto coffee pH Adjust alkalinizeWe can all stand to be more alkaline. The majority of people are acidic due to diet and lifestyle. One of the best formulas for creating alkalinity is pH Adjust. pH Adjust is a good-tasting, fluffy white powder that dissolves easily in water, juice, and yes, coffee.

Shortly after launching pH Adjust as a new product, we began receiving reports from customers that they used pH Adjust in their coffee.

Why put pH Adjust into coffee? Well, first it is a pleasant and convenient carrier for pH Adjust. Second, and most importantly, coffee is acid-forming in the body. By putting pH Adjust directly into coffee, you both can counteract acidity and simultaneously alkalinize the body.

My questions: Was coffee creating acid condition in my body? And would putting pH Adjust in my coffee make a a difference? Short answer: Yes.

I enjoy coffee. I don't drink it all the time. But after hearing customer comments, I decided to try pH Adjust in my coffee. Within a day or two, I noticed my teeth were stronger! This was welcome news.

In fact, I had been dealing with a few "minor" dental issues, including teeth chipping, enamel wear, and occasional tooth pain. My diet is good and I eat plenty of vegetables and fruits. So how could my teeth be compromised?

I measured my pH using Hydrion pH paper. It was lower than I thought it would be. Simply put: I was more acidic, more of the time, than I knew. Does acidity weaken teeth? Yes, it does.

ph Adjust keto coffee pH Adjust alkalinizes the body rapidly. It dissolves easily in water, coffee & most drinks.

"Bicarbonate reserves" decline as we age. This makes us more acidic because we don't buffer acidity as easily as we did when younger. The body must then draw upon minerals in bones and teeth. Yet, even young people are overly acidic in modern society. Everyone who is acidic stands to benefit from increased pH levels. That means most of us.

The proof that acidity causes weaker teeth is the fact that pH Adjust immediately stopped my tooth chipping, enamel wear, and pain. Good thing I put pH Adjust into coffee shortly after HPDI introduced it. And thanks to the customers, employees, and friends of HPDI who told me about it.

    ALKALINIZING COFFEE IS HEALTHIER

Coffee with pH Adjust is healthier than plain coffee because it helps alkalinize the body. Taking pH Adjust (without coffee) accomplishes the same thing. But for those who enjoy coffee, adding pH Adjust is an easy way to alkalinize what can otherwise be an acidifying drink. Who wants acidity? Not me.

I now use pH Adjust in coffee by directly adding a 1/2 to 1 teaspoon directly into coffee and stirring. I adjust the dose according to how much coffee I drink.

I also take pH Adjust separately from coffee—usually once or twice daily—about one teaspoon per dose. Taking 1–2 teaspoons total of pH Adjust daily seems to be the right amount. I no longer have issues with my teeth. My bones feel stronger, too.

If you drink coffee, then adding pH Adjust to make it "pH Adjust coffee" may be helpful to you. It reduces acidity and supports mineral balance. It especially provides good levels of potassium and magnesium, minerals that are required for good health—and that are deficient in most people.

If coffee is driving acidity in your body, then pH Adjust may be just the thing for you. Putting pH Adjust in your coffee directly means stopping acidity at the source. pH Adjust dissolves easily in coffee (and most other drinks) and does not add a bad taste. In fact, many people, including me, enjoy the gently sweet flavor it imparts.

    KETOGENIC COFFEE WITH pH ADJUST

More recently, I discovered the benefits of using organic coconut or MCT oil in coffee with organic pasture butter or ghee. This is based on the concept of Bulletproof coffee popularized by Dave Asprey in his Bulletproof Diet, and it fits well into ketogenic diets. Ketogenic diets are low in carbohydrates, high in fats, and include plenty of high-quality protein.

I do not follow a ketogenic diet per se. Yet, I consume relatively high amounts of "good" fats (like coconut, olive, and avocado oils) and few simple carbohydrates. I had even added coconut oil, butter, and ghee into my coffee years ago. But I never blended it into an emulsified concoction, nor was pH Adjust available. So this is truly different!

    MAKE KETO COFFEE

I make ketogenic or "keto" coffee using freshly ground organic coffee, organic coconut oil and/or organic MCT oil, and organic unsalted ghee (or pasture butter). It is important the ingredients be organic and pasture fed when possible.

I first brew the coffee, then add coconut oil or MCT oil, and butter or ghee. Then I use a hand blender (or regular blender) to mix completely.

    INGREDIENTS

    • 8–16 ounces freshly brewed coffee

    • 1–2 tablespoons of Coconut oil or MCT oil

    • 1 teaspoon–2 tablespoons of unsalted ghee (or unsalted pasture butter)

    • 1/2 tsp–2 teaspoons pH Adjust (to taste, depending on quantity desired)

Put freshly brewed coffee in a blender or large container (like a mason jar). Add coconut oil/MCT oil,  ghee, and pH Adjust. Blend or use hand blender to mix well. It is important the coffee be hot (or at least warm) in order for the coconut/MCT oil and ghee to mix into it.

You can add the pH Adjust either before or after you mix or blend the coffee. I personally stir in the pH Adjust manually using a long spoon after I've already mixed the other ingredients. If you add the pH Adjust after mixing the other ingredients, then be sure to stir well.

Note on amounts: the amounts I list above are suggestions. I often use less coconut or MCT oil, or ghee. That is, some days I use just two teaspoons of coconut/MCT oil, or one rounded teaspoon of ghee. Try using different amounts of ingredients to see what works for you.

Keto Coffee Ghee Butter Grass-fed ghee is a key ingredient in keto coffee.

One reason for using less coconut/MCT oil or ghee is because this coffee can be "filling." I am not hungry after I drink it. This is one benefit according to keto coffee experts. In fact, it is recommended that users drink it in the morning before eating. This gives the option of putting off breakfast.

If I have planned to eat breakfast, then I will often use less coconut or MCT oil. The lower level of satiety from the coffee means I eat breakfast without having already been filled by the keto coffee.

Make keto coffee any time of day. It is probably best on an empty stomach and definitely not too late into the afternoon—unless you want to be up late (if coffee affects you that way). You can make it early in the day, and then consume it over the course of the morning and afternoon.

Benefits of Coffee or Keto Coffee with pH Adjust

    • Alkalinizes body — an alkaline state is good for overall health

    • Provides minerals, especially potassium and magnesium

    • May help strengthen teeth and bones

    • Some users report improved digestion

    • Some users report reduced GERD

    • Some users report less Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS)

    • Potassium helps balance out sodium — and is required for cellular health

    • Magnesium is essential for 400 enzyme systems, production of ATP, cardiovascular health, and muscle relaxation

    • Many other benefits!

There are many other benefits associated with an alkaline state, which is ideally a pH of 7.35–7.45. You can learn more about the benefits of alkalinization from earlier HPDI blog articles (see resources section below), doing web searches, or talking to your health professional.

If these benefits are not sufficient reason to try using pH Adjust in your coffee to make "pH Adjust alkalinizing coffee" then consider doing it for the taste!

Tip: To make this coffee more hydrating, try adding 8-16 drops of Patrick Flanagan's Crystal Energy, which makes the water in this drink more bioavailable.

    KETO COFFEE TASTES GOOD

Keto coffee tastes good. The oils and fats provide a rich, hearty taste. It is creamy, warm, and delicious. And as I mentioned, it is filling, so it satisfies hunger.

Adding pH Adjust to keto coffee won't change the taste much. In fact, many people say adding pH Adjust makes it taste better. I agree. This may be due to the fact that the formula contains glycine in the form of potassium glycinate. Glycine tastes good and is naturally "sweet" without the harmful effects of sugar. In fact, to me pH Adjust imparts a slightly sweet flavor that is reminiscent of "caramel."

pH Adjust may slightly change the texture of your coffee. It may make regular, non-keto coffee appear and taste "creamier." Most people won't mind that. As for keto coffee, it is already "creamy" due to the coconut/MCT oil and ghee. pH Adjust might just add a bit more texture to it.

Also, there may be a slight chalky, white residue at the bottom of your cup. This does not happen if you mix in the pH Adjust formula well, or if you re-stir (or swirl) the coffee cup or glass when it's half full. Remember: if you see this residue, it is pH Adjust. As such, you may wish to drink it as is, or add little more liquid (coffee, water, etc.) and quaff it down.

keto coffee blender drink Mix the MCT or coconut oil and ghee (or butter) using a blender or stick blender.

    DRINK pH ADJUST FOR ALKALINITY

To me, the most important thing about coffee or keto coffee with pH Adjust is not how it tastes or how it reduces hunger, etc. It is how is increases pH levels. Alkalinity is important for health. No matter how you choose to take or drink it, pH Adjust will alkalinize. In spades.

Besides coffee, you can add pH Adjust to juices, teas, smoothies, shakes, water, and even lemonade. The fact is, taking pH Adjust is more important than the drink you choose to take it with. You decide the drink.

That being said, I really like keto coffee with pH Adjust. I add ice for a delightful, cooling concoction in summer. In winter, I drink it hot.

I think you will enjoy keto coffee with pH Adjust, too. And, if you already brew and drink your own version of keto coffee, then increased alkalinity—and better health—is as simple as adding a spoonful of pH Adjust. ~

Specifically, these tools include 1) our understanding and ability to characterize the human genome, and 2) advances in the science of epigenetics showing how environmental factors significantly influence the expression of genetics and human biology.

For many years, my company (Health Products Distributors, Inc. – "HPDI") has been involved in Rejuvenation/Healing Programs which take multiple health modalities into consideration (for information on HPDI's Rejuvenation/Healing Programs, see Additional Resources below). Our programs have generally involved the following elements:

    1. Health-Building Nutrition
Rejuvenation begins with nutrition in the broadest sense. That is, nutrition derived from healthy foods, superfoods, supplements, dietary nucleic acids, water and fluids, as well as via the skin. Establishing health-building nutrition is foundational to rejuvenating the body, mind, and spirit.
    2. Detoxification & Preventing Toxicity
Individuals cannot fully experience rejuvenation without having effective means for removing existing toxins form the body, or for stopping further accumulation of toxins absorbed from foods, air, water, and skin. Such toxins include everything from chemicals in foods and water to the many toxins found in homes, workplaces, personal products, and just about everywhere.
    3. Building Powerful Immunity
Building immunity is important for health because the immune system is the means by which the body defends itself. Yet, if the best defense is a strong offense, then having a strong immunity protects us in ways beyond just defense. Building immunity is accomplished not only by nutrition, but also by utilizing herbs, immune boosting supplements, and immune-enhancing protocols.
    4. Supporting Protocols
Certain practices and protocols powerfully support rejuvenation. These protocols include exercise, massage, saunas/hydrotherapy,  yoga, acupuncture, meditation, and others.
    5. Attitude and Commitment to Becoming Healthy
Attitude and Commitment are foundational to your rejuvenation/healing program because having total focused intention regarding your health is essential for success. If a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, establishing that intention perspective is a great place to start.

ADDING GENETICS TEST TO HPDI REJUVENATION PROGRAM

In the last few years, we have seen how healing and wellness programs can be significantly enhanced by adding genetics testing into the mix. In fact, we have joined forces with BodySync, a company with the most advanced single genetics test available. This test characterizes 45 different genes and gene variations. The Bodysync genetics test results are combined with basic lifestyle information provided by the patient to create a complete program customized for dealing with gene variations having either harmful or helpful effects.

The insights gleaned by taking the BodySync genetics test provides new insights into reasons a person may experience health challenges that no other method can provide. The test results and action plan also provide information regarding genetic strengths, especially related to athletic performance and weight management.

The NutriSync test from BodySync genetics

HPDI now adds the BodySync genetics test to the list of key elements in our rejuvenation/healing programs. In fact, we are now introducing the BodySync genetic test along with consultations to our HPDI Reseller Associates—so that health practitioners (HPs) can experience the benefits of the test for themselves— and see how genetics consulting can be added to their practice. In addition, BodySync has selected HPDI as their preferred supplier of nutritional supplements supporting the recommendations provided in their Action Plans for individuals taking the test. It is exciting to be part of this breakthrough in the practice of genetic science.

BROAD OVERVIEW OF GENETICS, EPIGENETICS, AND HUMAN BIOLOGY

In order to give a more complete understanding of our program for attaining excellent health, we have developed a broad scientific overview of how all the key elements are related and eventually expressed as YOU.

The diagram below provides a broad overview of genetics, epigenetics, and human biology with the goal of showing how the elements are interrelated. More discussion on the key elements is provided below the diagram.

Genetics, Epigenetics, and Human Biology genetics

    GENOME

The human genome is the sum of the body's DNA and is considered to be static for each individual—remaining the same over a lifetime. The human genome contains all the instructions needed to make the full range of human cell types including muscle cells and neurons. This includes all of the body's DNA, both the genes (the coding regions) and the noncoding DNA, as well as the genetic material of the mitochondria and chloroplasts.

With the breakthrough in gene testing now available, it is possible to isolate relevant genes from a field of  approximately 20,000 different genes. These 20,000 different genes make up less than 2% of the total amount of DNA.

It has been found that the underlying gene patterns can exhibit "genetic variations". Ultimately, genetic variations are caused by variations in the order of bases in the nucleotides in genes. New technology, such as that used in the BodySync genetics test, allows scientists to directly sequence DNA which has identified even more genetic variation than was previously detected by previous methods such as protein electrophoresis.

Examination of DNA has shown genetic variation in both coding regions and in the non-coding intron (nonprotein-coding sections) region of genes. Mutation is the ultimate source of genetic variation, but mechanisms such as sexual reproduction and genetic drift contribute to it as well.

Genetic variation will result in phenotypic variation if variation in the order of nucleotides in the DNA sequence results in a difference in the order of amino acids in proteins coded by that DNA sequence, and if the resultant differences in amino acid sequence influence the shape, and thus the function of the enzyme.

Genetic variations/base substitutions can change a codon to one that encodes a different amino acid and cause a small change in the protein produced. For example, sickle cell anemia is caused by a substitution in the beta-hemoglobin gene, which alters a single amino acid in the protein produced.

Genetic variations can change a codon to one that encodes the same amino acid and causes no change in the protein produced. These are called silent mutations.

Also, base substitutions can change an amino-acid-coding codon to a single "stop" codon and cause an incomplete protein. This can have serious effects since the incomplete protein probably won't function.

In some genetic variations there may be a piece of the DNA deleted or inserted in a gene that may also lead to Present/Insertion or Deletion variation (INDEL). Since protein-coding DNA is divided into codons three bases long, insertions and deletions can alter a gene so that its message is no longer correctly parsed.

When it comes to genetic traits, scientists look at genes and the locus where that gene or trait encodes on the chromosome. Since humans possess two copies of each chromosome, they also have two copies of each gene and locus on those chromosomes. Each of these trait-encoding genes (or loci) is called an allele. If the alleles match, the person is homozygous for that trait. If the alleles are different, the person is heterozygous for that trait.

If a mutation occurs in just one copy of the gene then that individual is considered heterozygous. On the other hand if both copies of a gene are mutated then that individual is homozygous genotype. Many of these mutations can have undesirable health affects for an individual.

BodySync's technology has helped to usher in the age of personalized nutrigenomics. The company has built its intellectual property and technology to support its vision of providing services in partnership with health care professionals (HP). BodySync's NutriSync (NS) genetics test consists of only the most well-researched genetic variations with direct applicability to actionable personalized health and wellness recommendations (most of which fall into the epigenetic category).

The NutriSync genetics test has been based on evaluations of thousands of peer reviewed articles, published research papers, and human intervention studies, as well as extracting data of tens of thousands of DNA and self-reported lifestyle samples in its database.

    EPIGENOME

The human epigenome serves as a bio-record of chemical changes that have occurred in a person's DNA and their histone proteins. Unlike the underlying genome which is largely static within an individual, the epigenome can be dynamically altered by environmental conditions. For example methyl groups from the diet can tag DNA and activate or repress certain genes as shown in the diagram below.

The epigenome is involved in regulating gene expression, development, tissue differentiation, and suppression of transposable elements. These changes in underlying DNA and histone proteins can be passed down to an organism's offspring via transgenerational epigenetic inheritance. Changes to the epigenome can result in changes to the structure of chromatin and changes to the function of the genome.

    EPIGENETICS

Epigenetics, on the other hand, is the study of changes in gene expression (active versus inactive genes) that do not involve changes to the underlying DNA sequence — a change in phenotype (the manifestation that is YOU) without a change in genotype — which in turn affects how cells read the genes. To be sure, epigenetic change is a regular and natural occurrence in our bodies, but can also be influenced by several factors including age, the environment/lifestyle, drug usage, and disease state.

Epigenetic modifications can manifest as commonly as the manner in which cells terminally differentiate to end up as skin cells, liver cells, brain cells, etc. Also, epigenetic change can have more damaging effects that can result in diseases like cancer. At least three epigenetic mechanisms (two of which are shown in the diagram below) including DNA methylation, histone modification, and non-coding RNA (ncRNA)-associated gene silencing are currently considered to initiate and sustain epigenetic change.

    genetics epigenetics mechanisms

    ENVIRONMENT

In this context the term "ENVIRONMENT" refers to all of the "external" influences we experience. In the diagram we list what are generally considered to be positive and negative factors contributing to our overall health.

Some of these factors such as free-radicals and drug use affect our genome directly. Environmental agents such as UV light, ionizing radiation, and genotoxic chemicals (e.g. the drug thalidomide) can cause DNA damage. DNA damage is very frequent, occurring on average about 10,000 times a day per cell of the human body.

These damages are largely repaired, but at the site of a DNA repair, epigenetic changes can remain. In particular, a double strand break in DNA can initiate unprogrammed epigenetic gene silencing both by causing DNA methylation, as well as by promoting silencing types of histone modification.

The field of epigenetics is rapidly growing and with it the understanding that both the environment and individual lifestyle directly interact with the genome to influence changes in the way various genes are expressed. These changes may be reflected at various stages throughout a person’s life and even in later generations. For example, human epidemiological studies have provided evidence that prenatal and early postnatal environmental factors influence the adult risk of developing various chronic diseases and behavioral disorders.

Also, research has also shown that a mother’s exposure to pollution could impact her child's asthma susceptibility and her intake of Vitamin D could change DNA methylation that influences placenta functioning. It doesn’t stop at the mother, however, as further studies support that the father has a hand in his child’s health and epigenetic marks, as well.

Although our epigenetic marks are more stable during adulthood, they are still thought to be dynamic and modifiable by lifestyle choices and environmental influence. It is becoming more apparent that epigenetic effects occur not just in the womb, but over the full course of a human life span, and that epigenetic changes could be reversed. There are numerous examples of epigenetics that show how different lifestyle choices and environmental exposures can alter marks on top of DNA and play a role in determining health outcomes.

The environment is being investigated as a powerful influence on epigenetic tags and disease susceptibility. Pollution has become a significant focus in this research area as scientists are finding that air pollution could alter methyl tags on DNA and increase one’s risk for neurodegenerative disease. Also, adequate amounts of B vitamins may protect against harmful epigenetic effects of pollution and may be able to combat the harmful effects that particulates have on the body.

Diet has also been shown to modify epigenetic tags in significant ways. The field of nutriepigenomics explores how food and nutritional supplements and epigenetics work together to influence health and well being. For example, a study found that a high fat, low carbohydrate diet could open up chromatin and improve mental ability via HDAC (histone deacetylase) inhibitors.

Other studies have found that certain compounds within the foods we consume could protect again cancer by adjusting methyl marks on oncogenes or tumor suppressor genes. Ultimately, an epigenetic diet may guide people toward the optimal food regimen as scientific studies reveal the underlying mechanisms and impact that different foods have on the epigenome and health.

    RNA/PROTEIN

Ribonucleic acid (RNA) is a polymeric molecule essential in various biological roles in coding, decoding, regulation, and expression of genes. RNA and DNA are nucleic acids, and, along with lipids, proteins and carbohydrates, constitute the four major macromolecules essential for all known forms of life.

Like DNA, RNA is assembled as a chain of nucleotides, but unlike DNA it is more often found in nature as a single-strand folded onto itself, rather than a paired double-strand. Cellular organisms use messenger RNA (mRNA) to convey genetic information that directs synthesis of specific proteins.

These protein molecules are the "workhorses" of the cell carrying out all the functions necessary for life. For example, enzymes, including those that metabolize nutrients and synthesize new cellular constituents, as well as DNA polymerases and other enzymes that make copies of DNA during cell division, are all proteins.

    PHENOTYPE

Your phenotype is a description of your actual physical characteristics. This includes straightforward visible characteristics like your height and eye color, but also your overall health, your disease history, and even your behavior and general disposition. Do you gain weight easily? Are you anxious or calm? Do you like cats? These are all ways in which you present yourself to the world, and as such are considered phenotypes.

However, not all phenotypes are a direct result of your genotype; chances are that your personal disposition to cats is the result of your life’s experience with pets (epigenetic) rather than a mutation in a hypothetical cat fancier gene.

Most phenotypes are influenced by both your genotype and by the unique circumstances in which you have lived your life, including everything that has ever happened to you (epigenetic). We often refer to these two inputs as “nature,” the unique genome you carry, and “nurture,” the environment in which you have lived your life.

    HEALTH AND DISEASE

Your phenotype expresses who YOU are in a multitude of ways and in particular shows your strengths and weaknesses regarding health, mental abilities, and athletic performance to name a few. By incorporating genetics and epigenetic tests and controlling your environment in positive ways your strengths can be expressed more easily and your weaknesses minimized!!

    CONCLUSION

I have provided an overview of how genetics testing provides new scientific insights into many health issues that have previously not been well understood. An overview of genetics, epigenetic, and human biology has been provided that shows the overall relationships of these topics. Hopefully, the rationale is clear for adding genetic testing into programs that provide protocols for more successful healing regimens.

  • RESTORE GUT HEALTH FORMULA + VIDEO

Fred Liers PhD restore liquid mineral supplement gut healthHeard of RESTORE liquid mineral supplement? If not, you're about to discover something important for gut health.

RESTORE™ is formulated to help restore gut health. It works by strengthening the integrity of tight junctions in your intestinal wall.

Maintaining tight junctions is important because they protect your body from substances entering the blood stream. Restore also supports the communications systems of the bacteria in your microbiome.

Tight junctions are natural barriers protecting the lining of your gut barrier, organs such as kidneys and heart, and the blood-brain barrier thereby keeping out unwanted substances. Even as we take in nutrients from the GI tract, the function of tight junctions is maintaining the integrity of the gut wall and other barriers that protect the body.

These days, our gut membrane has a tough job keeping out unwanted substances. Because tight junctions are weakened by many things, including highly processed foods, especially those containing gluten and gliadin, the herbicide glyphosate (the primary ingredient in RoundUp weedkiller), and other exposures like electromagnetic fields (EMF) from digital devices and Wi-Fi networks.

As a result of weakened tight junctions, undesirable substances from food proteins, harmful chemicals and other toxins can slip though into our bloodstream. This can lead to a powerful immune response that can weaken immunity and cause significant inflammation. Foreign substances in the bloodstream can also result in extreme food allergies and food sensitivities to various toxins entering the body.

We live in an age in which our microbiome health is under assault.  Studies show our ancient ancestors had 20,000–30,000 different strains of beneficial bacteria in their GI tracts. Many people today have just 5,000 or less. Why is that?

There are many reasons for low microbiome diversity. These reasons include antiobiotic use (both from pharmaceuticals and foods), glyphosate (which essentially acts like an antibiotic), processed foods (especially those containing gluten and gliadin), and systemic degradation of the gut environment rendering it less hospitable for maintaining health populations of gut flora.

These impacts are significant because diversity in your microbiome not only supports gut health, but also appropriate  brain health, immune system health, and overall vitality. Restore acts as a "microbiome fertilizer" helping establish and maintain healthy microbiota.

In fact, Restore contains important "redox" molecules produced millions of years ago by existing soil bacteria. These molecules are an important part of communications systems within the body between gut bacteria and with the body's mitochondria. These communication systems play an important role in establishing proper homeostasis throughout the body.

    REASONS TO USE RESTORE™

There are important reasons to try Restore—whether or not you experience significant gut health issues. These reasons include:

    • Maintaining strong tight junctions for mega membrane health, and helping the body restore tight junction integrity

    • Creating an environment in which beneficial bacteria can thrive

    • Boosting microbiome diversity

    • Healing the gut

    • Mitigating the adverse effects substances like antibiotics, gluten/gliadin, glyphosate, and GMOs on microbiome health

    • Supporting immune system function

    • Protecting integrity of blood-brain barrier

Other benefits include support for respiratory wellness, enhancing mental clarity, and promoting proper homeostasis throughout the body.

For all these reasons and more, you should consider taking Restore. You can start by taking one teaspoon or less daily, and gradually increasing your dose to one tablespoon or more.Restore for gut health liquid supplement

I have taken Restore daily for more than two years, and benefit greatly from it. The most noticeable effects are a complete cessation of spring allergies (after two decades of worsening symptoms), greater clarity of thinking, and improved overall well being. I have seen other people get good results with a variety of conditions from dysbiosis to gluten/gliadin sensitivity.

    MORE ABOUT RESTORE™

You can learn more about Restore on our website. Also, the Restore website offers in-depth information and videos. Here is how the Restore website and Dr. Zach Bush describe the formula:

Restore is a dietary supplement supplying first line defense against daily exposure to environmental and food-borne factors. It helps create an optimal environment or ecology in the gut membrane for beneficial or "good" bacteria to flourish. Beneficial gut flora protect your immune system and maintain health. Restore is a scientifically proven soil-derived mineral supplement designed to support protection of the intestinal walls.

Restore protects the entire gastrointestinal (GI) tract against agricultural herbicides, antibiotics, GMOs, gluten, and food-borne toxins. It helps create an environment in which 20,000–30,000 different strains of beneficial gut bacteria can thrive. This is a far different mode of action from probiotics, most of which contain just 3–30 strains of beneficial bacteria.

Restore helps create a strong immune system along with proper gut function. Microbiome balance and tight junction integrity are known to constitute a significant part of the immune system. They directly affect DNA transcription of cells to promote optimal health and prevent a leaky gut syndrome, thereby improving gut intelligence.

Seventy percent (70%) of our immune system is found in our gut. We need tens of thousands different strains of good gut bacteria to support a healthy immune system. Clinical experience, in addition to cell culture studies, support the theory that Restore’s proprietary formula creates the optimal environment in the gut to create a tight junction barrier and maintain our health and wellness.

Restore is a daily liquid supplement designed to support the protection of the entire gastrointestinal (GI) tract against agricultural herbicides, antibiotics, GMOs, gluten and food-borne toxins by helping to create an environment where between 20,000-30,000 different strains of good gut bacteria thrive. Most probiotics on the market contain fewer than 24 different strains of good gut bacteria.

    TRY RESTORE™

Restore is ideal for individuals suffering from gut health issues. Yet, it is also excellent for supporting and maintaining gut health generally. That is the reason we at HPDI consider Restore important enough to designate as a foundational supplement, one of the top six supplements you need for good health.

Given the safety and effectiveness of Restore, there is broad applicability for its use. This is especially true because gut and microbiome health are under constant assault. These assaults range from multiple environmental and lifestyle factors—including poor diets high in processed foods, antibiotics in pharmaceuticals and animal foods—to massive glyphosate (herbicide) contamination of foods, soils, air, and water.

Let Restore be your first line of defense against assaults on your gut health, tight junctions, microbiome diversity, and immune function. As it says on the bottle, "Complete well-being begins in the gut."

  • HYDROGEN SUPPLEMENTS – MAKE HYDROGEN DRINKS

Fred Liers PhD hydrogen supplements drinks H2I love hydrogen supplements. So should you. Since starting my morning—and often afternoon—routine of making hydrogen drinks in the kitchen, I have come to appreciate the surge of energy lasting many hours, as well as a host of other benefits.

Most of all, I am amazed how easy hydrogen supplements are to use considering how much they do for you, and how well they complement the supplements I already take—seeming to make them all more effective.

I typically use one or two effervescing Active H2 Ultra tablets in 8–16 ounces of water. Then I like to open one Megahydrate capsule directly in the effervescing water. I wait about 90 seconds to let the tablets stop "fizzing" and then I drink immediately. Allowing the drink to sit for a few minutes is okay, but the sooner you drink it, the higher the concentration of hydrogen. Note: I used Vital Reaction tablets in this video, but my preferred product is the new, improved Active H2 Ultra (tablets) which dissolves in less than one minute—faster than other hydrogen tablet formulas—thereby preserving more hydrogen in the water.

    HYDROGEN SUPPLEMENTS ARE EFFECTIVE

Hydrogen supplements are among the newer, cutting-edge nutritional formulas available to support optimal health. More than 500 scientific articles now support the therapeutic potential hydrogen for essentially every organ system and in 150 human disease models, according to the non-profit Molecular Hydrogen Foundation. In fact, hydrogen is rapidly incorporated into medicine, sports medicine, peak performance, elite fitness, and more.

Hydrogen is an antioxidant. It is also an extremely small molecule that can penetrate even the tiniest cellular compartments. This helps explain how hydrogen works to offer free-radical defense throughout the entire body.

The medical and scientific literature is clear. Hydrogen's modes of action:

H2 reduces oxidative stress as a selective antioxidant and by maintaining homeostatic levels of glutathione, superoxide dismutase, catalase, etc.

H2, like other gaseous signaling molecules (i.e. NO, CO, H2S), appears to have cell signal-modulating activity affording it with anti-inflammatory, anti-obesity, and anti-allergy benefits.

We include hydrogen supplements in HPDI's system of Foundational Supplements. In fact, hydrogen formulas as just one of six foundational supplements. We consider hydrogen a "secondary" foundational supplement usually to be added to a supplement regimen after the four primary ones: multivitamins, antioxidant & vitamin C formulas, essential fatty acids, and superfoods high in dietary nucleic acids (i.e., Rejuvenate! superfoods).

    HYDROGEN MEDICINE

The scientific literature discusses the use of molecular hydrogen for many clinical applications, including:

    • Metabolic Syndrome including diabetes, hyperlipidemia, arteriosclerosis, hypertension, and obesity

    • Ischemia/reperfusion injuries, including cerebral and myocardial infarctions, organ transplants, post-cardiac arrest

    • Neuroprotection, including applications for dementia, Parkinson's disease, depression, and anesthesia

    • Inflammation, including applications for polymicrobial sepsis, rheumatoid arthritis, wound healing, and bowel diseases

    • Mitochondrial diseases

    • Hemodialysis and ventilation

    • Aging, including cognitive decline

    • Exercise, including applications for fatigue, lactic acid, recovery, and oxidative stress related to heavy exercise

Side effects of cancer therapies, including radiotherapy and chemotherapy

    • Many other benefits

    (Source: Molecular Hydrogen Foundation)

    HOW HYDROGEN WORKS

According to the Molecular Hydrogen Foundation, there are three ways molecular hydrogen exerts positive health effects.

    1.  Molecular hydrogen easily diffuses into subcellular compartments where it scavenges cytotoxic oxygen radicals, thereby protecting DNA, RNA, and proteins against oxidative stress.

    2.  Molecular hydrogen triggers activation or upregulation of additional antioxidant enzymes (e.g., glutathione, superoxide dismutase, catalase, and others) and/or cytoprotective proteins of the body.

    3.  Molecular hydrogen may be a novel signaling molecule that alters cell signaling, cell metabolism, and gene expression. This may explain its apparent anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and anti-apoptotic (or anti-cell death) effects.

    HYDROGEN IS SAFE

Molecular hydrogen exhibits great safety, and it is regarded as safe for use in the body. It is shown no toxicity even in high concentrations.

Safety standards have long been established for high concentrations of hydrogen for inhalation largely because of the history of high-pressure H2 gas used in deep-water diving gas mixtures for preventing decompression sickness.

Notably, H2 gas combusts only at temperatures higher than 527 °C, and it explodes by chain reaction with oxygen (O2) only in the range of Hconcentration (4–75%, vol/vol).

Molecular hydrogen is used for medical applications safely by several ingestion methods including inhalation of 1–4% hydrogen gas, for example, which exhibits great effectiveness. All these factors mean that hydrogen is safe, easy-to-use, and effective for therapeutic purposes.

    DRINKING HYDROGEN-INFUSED WATER

According to the Molecular Hydrogen Foundation, drinking H2-rich water is the easiest, and often the most effective, method for obtaining hydrogen.

Drinking hydrogen-infused water is easy to do, and convenient as you can drink it at home or while traveling. Effective hydrogen products HPDI carries include Active H2 Ultra tablets, and Megahydrate capsules.

As noted, I make one or two hydrogen drinks daily, first in the morning and then often again in the afternoon. I drink them on an empty stomach. I enjoy a significant energy boost, which helps power me through my day. I gain other benefits, including improved athletic performance, noticeably faster recovery from exercise, and an overall greater sense of well-being.

I highly recommend you try hydrogen supplements for yourself, and then consider them for your clients or patients. Our experience is that most people are pleasantly surprised by the results they get from hydrogen supplements, especially if they have a need for exceptional free-radical defense, or stand to benefit from the proven effects hydrogen uniquely provides (see list above).

Once you try hydrogen, you will want to continue taking it because the benefits are so significant. Let the power of hydrogen starting working for you on a daily basis!

  • BONE FRACTURES SUPPORT

Dr. Hank Liers, PhD bone fracturesSeveral years ago a customer asked me for a program that could be helpful to those suffering with bone fractures. A relative had been diagnosed with multiple bone fractures in his ankle.

Since I have been counseling individuals regarding natural treatments for supporting those with bone fractures and injury for many years, and was able to provide a comprehensive program that could be helpful in recovery. More recently, we have introduced products and tools that can be even more supportive. Therefore, in this article we are providing an update to the bone fractures program.

Clearly, the need for such a program is great. According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), about six million individuals suffer fractures each year in North America. In about 5–10 percent of cases, patients suffer either delayed healing or fractures that do not heal.

The problem of bone fractures is especially troubling for the elderly, many of whom suffer from osteoporosis, a condition in which bones become weak and break more easily. For an older person, a fracture affects quality of life because it significantly reduces function and mobility, and requires an extended period of recuperation.

The bone fracture program set forth below also works well to support the healing of other types of bone problems, including broken bones, bone surgery, osteoporosis, and wisdom tooth removal.

    THE BONE FRACTURE PROGRAM

    IMPORTANCE OF FOUNDATIONAL SUPPLEMENTS

The first element of the program consists of Foundational Supplements. This group of supplements ensures the body is being supplied with all of the basic elements needed for optimal function. The primary foundational supplements consists of 1) a therapeutic multivitamin and mineral formula, 2) a complete buffered Vitamin C with antioxidants formula, 3) an essential fatty acids supplement, and 4) a high-RNA superfoods formula.

Our Foundational Supplements are described in great detail on the HPDI website where we provide a free downloadable e-book "The Need for Foundational Supplements" (.pdf). Suffice it to say that the foundational supplements are a essential part of the program that ensure healing will take place quickly and effectively. I encourage everyone to become familiar with this information as foundational supplements are basic to any wellness or healing program.

    bone fractures

ENHANCEMENT FORMULAS ARE CRITICAL FOR HEALING BONE FRACTURES

The second element of the program for healing bone fractures consists of Enhancement Formulas that strengthen the body as it relates to dealing with the damaging effects of bone fractures. These include a Vitamin D3 formula with the synergistic nutrients of Vitamin A and Vitamin K2 that are required for the rebuilding of bone as well as strengthening the body in many other ways. The HPDI Vitamin D3 Plus formula to designed to specifically address this need.

A second Enhancement Formula in this program is our comprehensive Bone Guardian formula that is based upon micronized veal bone that provides hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2). Hydroxyapatite is the basic component of human bone that is 50% by volume and 70% by weight. Whereas the Vitamin D3 Plus formula builds the bone matrix, the Bone Guardian fills in the matrix with materials such as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, boron, zinc, manganese, copper, silica, and strontium. HPDI sells Bone Guardian in both the tablet and capsule forms. The capsule form may be better for older people who are able to absorb capsules better than tablets.

A third Enhancement Formula to the program is additional amounts of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is known to participate in every step of the process of building collagen, which is a key component of bone. Vitamin C has been shown to increase bone mass density. We recommend slowly increasing your intake of buffered Vitamin C until you reach your bowel tolerance. This can be accomplished by increasing your intake of HPDI's foundational supplement PRO-C™ formula. The PRO-C has the added value of containing oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) from grape seed, skin, & pulp. OPCs in the body are able to strongly crosslink and strengthen new and damaged collagen fibers needed needed to repair bones, ligaments, tendons, and cartilage.

SPECIFIC CONDITION FORMULAS TARGET BONE FRACTURES

The third element in the program are Specific Condition Formulas that directly address issues related to bone fractures. The first of these is the addition of a joint formula that allows the body to build and repair connective tissue and to significantly reduce inflammation in the area of bone fractures. In most cases of fractures there will be damaged ligaments and tendons as well as inflammation in the area.

HPDI's Joint Health Formula includes the ingredients glucosamine hydrochloride, MSM, and sea cucumber (a significant source of chondroiten sulfate) in addition to anti-inflammatory substances such as turmeric extract, rutin, and grape extract (seed, pulp, and skin) that have been extremely helpful in both repairing connective tissue and reducing pain and inflammation.

A second strongly recommended condition-specific formula is proteolytic enzymes. Because it is highly likely in the case of bone fractures and injury that there is significant tissue damage, a formula with pancreatic and plant enzymes as well as anti-inflammatories can be extremely helpful is clearing out the damaged tissue. This gives the body the opportunity to begin the rebuilding process much sooner.

Our recommended PROLYT formula contains the proteolytic enzymes bromelain, trypsin (pancreatic enzyme), and chymotrypsin (pancreatic enzyme), and the polyphenols/bioflavonoids turmeric extract (95% curcuminoids), quercetin and oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) from grape extract. This formula when taken on an empty stomach between meals is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream and goes to work cleaning up any damaged tissues in the area surrounding a fracture and assists in reducing pain and inflammation.

TOPICAL MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE FOR PAIN AND RAPID HEALING

A final Specific Condition Formula that I highly recommend for healing bone fractures is to rub Ancient Minerals Magnesium Oil on and surrounding the fracture area. Bones cannot heal without having adequate amounts of magnesium available. Unfortunately, many people are deficient in magnesium and even taking oral magnesium cannot easily provide sufficient amounts to an area with a bone fracture. Magnesium oil (mostly magnesium chloride) is quickly absorbed transdermally (via skin) and often can provide rapid healing and pain relief!

BODY pH COULD BE A FACTOR IN HEALING BONE FRACTURES

The processed food diets with a high protein and low vegetable content consumed by many people in the U.S. and elsewhere often produce conditions in the body of acidity. This in turn leads to decreased oxygenation of cells and encourages a greater amount of anaerobic processes in metabolism. In addition, when the body is acidic calcium can be taken from bones in order to balance the acidity. This can lead to poor healing of bone fractures.

In order to counter acidic conditions in the body we recommend the use of HPDI's pH ADJUST formula. As a dietary supplement, take 1 gm (about a rounded ¼ tsp) in 4-8 ounces of purified water preferably away from food, or as directed by a health care professional.  For extremely acidic conditions, try 4–10 doses per day, depending on acidity level. Use pH paper to ensure pH levels remain balanced, and do not become too alkaline (alkalosis may occur above pH 8.2).

TESTING pH LEVELS: The best way to test pH levels is to use litmus paper, which HPDI offers in rolls (Hydrion brand) for this purpose. You can test salivary or urinary pH. In order to test salivary pH, simply use a small strip of pH paper to dip into a small amount of saliva. Advantages of pH paper include rapid results, ease of use, and cost effectiveness.

    pH Paper bone fractures protocol

The color of the litmus paper indicates the pH level of the body fluid tested. Most litmus paper comes with an indicator chart showing colors corresponding to various pH levels. Alkaline states will generally produce a dark green, blue or purple color (most basic). Acidic states will range from yellow (most acidic) to light green.

Salivary pH and urinary pH are significantly affected by recent food consumption and other factors, so it it best to test pH hours after meals or in the morning when you awake. We prefer to measure urinary pH since results are more consistent. Measuring urinary pH is a simple as placing a few drops of urine on the paper or dipping the paper into a sample cup of fresh urine.

A consistent pH measurement of less than 7.0 indicates that you are too acidic (values less than 6.2 show extreme acidity). This indicates that you should consume more alkaline forming foods (usually vegetables) and/or take pH ADJUST. A single dose of pH ADJUST can change conditions in the body from acidic to alkaline within a few hours.

GENETIC VARIATIONS IN YOUR VITAMIN D RECEPTOR GENE (VDR) MAY BE AN IMPORTANT FACTOR

The VDR gene (contained in every cell of the body) provides instructions for making a protein called vitamin D receptor (VDR), which allows the body to respond appropriately to vitamin D. This vitamin can be acquired from foods in the diet or made in the body by exposure to from sunlight. Vitamin D is involved in maintaining the proper balance of several minerals in the body, including calcium and phosphate, which are essential for the normal formation of bones and teeth. One of vitamin D's major roles is to control the absorption of calcium and phosphate from the intestines into the bloodstream. Vitamin D is also involved in several process unrelated to bone formation.

VDR attaches (binds) to the active form of vitamin D, known as calcitriol. Calcitrol is produced in the body from Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) in the liver and kidneys. The interaction with calcitriol allows VDR to partner with another protein called retinoid X receptor (RXR). The resulting complex of proteins then binds to particular regions of DNA, known as vitamin D response elements, and regulates the activity of vitamin D-responsive genes. By turning these genes on or off, VDR helps control calcium and phosphate absorption and other processes.

In recent years, genetic tests have become available that show VDR variations can cause serious conditions related to low bone density and other important body functions such a higher blood glucose levels or lower immune system function. If a person is having little success in healing bone fractures, it is possible that VDR variations are a key factor of causation.

In such cases, we recommend having genetic testing done to determine if VDR variations are present. Recently, HPDI has teamed with a genetic testing company (BodySync, Inc.) and sells the BodySync test kits on our Reseller site. Among the genes tested for in the test are three variations of the VDR gene. Resellers can purchase the test kits directly from HPDI and retail customers can call us  (800-228-4265) to find out how we can help them get a test kit and support them with any associated counseling regarding the results.

    ADDITIONAL NUTRIENTS FOR BONE FRACTURES

Additional nutrients that may be helpful include pH ADJUST (to balance excess acidity in the body),  Warrior Mist™ for pain relief (rub on adjacent area several times daily), Echinacea (as drops or capsules), N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine - NAC (2 gms per day), Progesterone Cream - for women (1/4–1/2 tsp twice daily), and Prescript-Assist™ probiotics (2 capsules daily) if on antibiotics.

    PROPER DIET IS ESSENTIAL

Consume a diet that provides good amounts of protein which is needed by the body to support the healing of bone fractures. Eat meats, poultry and fish (e.g., sardines, salmon, mackerel) in the amount of a 5–10 ounces per day. Ensure a good intake of organic vegetables, including high levels of dietary fiber. Drink 16 oz per day of fresh vegetable juices from carrot, celery, beets, cabbage, etc.

Other healthy foods (preferably organic) include fruits, whole grains (e.g., brown rice, millet, and quinoa), beans, nuts and seeds (sunflower, chia, flax, pumpkin, almond, walnut and sesame in small amounts — 2 or 4 ounces — are good). Try eating Hank's Vegetable Soup several times a week. Avoid all sweets (sugar), processed/refined foods (white bread and pasta), preservatives, and artificial flavors and colors. Vary your diet.

HYDROTHERAPY (WATER THERAPY) FOR BONE FRACTURES

An additional treatment that can be useful is hydrotherapy. In particular, hot and cold showers are a very effective way to move the blood and create circulation. This can speed up both detoxification and delivery of healing nutrients to the area of a bone fracture. Here's how to do this. Once daily, take a complete hot and cold shower. You will start with hot water for one minute, then cold for one minute. Repeat this seven (7) times so the shower should last about 15 minutes.

Another time, daily, you can perform a complete hot and cold shower routine again or a partial one just applying the water directly to or near the area where there is a bone fracture. While you are doing both hot and cold showers, pay special attention to any affected area and massage it as vigorously as is safe and comfortable. If a shower is impossible, then alternate hot packs and ice packs on the area of the bone fracture.

    BONE FRACTURES – CONCLUSION

By following the recommendations and suggested supplement schedule, healing time for bone fractures can be significantly reduced and fractures may heal more completely with fewer complications. By ensuring your body receives the proper nutrients it needs to heal itself, and by engaging in other relevant practices (e.g., hydrotherapy), you and/or your loved ones may be able to deal with bone fractures successfully, and continue a healthy, vibrant lifestyle.
